Integrative Medicine
What does integrative medicine mean and how is it related to holistic, alternative, or complementary medicine?

Traditional western medicine in heavily focused on a system-based diagnosis and treatment (cardiovascular vs. respiratory vs. nervous) and, as such, our health care system has evolved to include a narrow specialist focus on their field of expertise. In contrast, Current Health’s primary care doctors take a “whole person” perspective on our patients and think about diagnosis and treatment inclusive of the whole body as well as the emotional, mental, spiritual and cultural implications. This medical approach is often called holistic, alternative or complementary medicine and introduces some of the traditional practices of Eastern medicine. At Current Health, we have crafted an approach that seamlessly integrates the best of Western and Eastern medicine to give you the best options to fit with your lifestyle.

What is naturopathy? What does a naturopathic doctor do?

Naturopathy can most broadly be described as letting the natural healing power of the body work to its full capacity prior to turning to invasive medications and treatments.

For example, a naturopathic doctor would prescribe weight management and diet changes prior to drugs to lower cholesterol. Naturopathic doctors have been trained to be in tune with these natural processes and focus their efforts on behavioral, educational, and cultural changes to health and the appropriate application of medication and treatments as needed.

How does my primary care specialist work with the naturopathic doctor?

At Current Health, your medical doctor (MD), works side-by-side with your naturopathic doctor (ND), as a team combining the best practices to ensure all options for optimal health are explored and provided to you. Your primary care physician typically completes a comprehensive physical exam, orders appropriate testing, and creates a baseline health plan. This health plan is reviewed with the ND who is also involved in behavioral, nutritional, exercise, and ongoing health optimization strategies. Working together, these physicians will track progress through the year.

Because your doctors work together, and because all interactions with the practice are captured on a shared health record, both of your physicians are in tune with your health. We do request that you designate one of your doctors as your primary physician, so we can ensure appropriate direction and leadership of your care. However, your doctors will help you determine when it is best to see your primary care physician or your naturopathic doctor.

Insurance and Payment
How do I pay for my health care services at Current Health?

Current Health is a fee-for-service medical practice. This means that all of our patients pay us at the time of service. Many of our patients then submit their claims to their insurance companies for reimbursement as an “out-of-network” provider. We will supply you with all the necessary billing codes and paperwork for you to send to your insurance company.

Payment can be made by credit card, or cash. We strive to have all aspects of our practice, including our professional fees, reflect our ethical and rational approach to your care. Our charges are based on the time we spend with you, the complexity of your care, and the materials, equipment, or tests utilized during treatment.

How does my insurance work with my Current Health membership and services?

When you use Current Health in conjunction with your insurance, you decide how you want to spend your health care dollars. Our patients find that most insurance companies will reimburse a large portion of our services as an “out-of-network” provider. However, membership fees cannot, in general, be reimbursed by insurance.

Many patients use their health savings accounts (HSAs), health reimbursement accounts (HRAs) or flexible spending accounts (FSAs) to pay for services. Why don’t you accept insurance?

Our philosophy focuses care around the patients’ needs, rather than around insurance company policies. In order for our practice to provide unhurried, quality care, we ask that our patients pay for services at the time of the visit. To help our patients with insurance company reimbursement, we supply all necessary billing codes and documentation, and are happy to help if further problems arise.

Will my insurance reimburse me?

Insurance reimbursement varies by insurance company and by plan. You may want to call your insurance company to inquire about out-of-network coverage.

Current Health provides all patients with a medical bill (known as a ‘superbill’) with the necessary codes for insurance carriers to process a claim; specifically the CPT and ICD-9 codes. We also provide a letter that the patient may send in with the superbill. Contact your insurance company for further information.

How do I use my HSA/FSA or HRA to pay for these services?

Many of our patients have health savings accounts (HSAs) or health care flexible spending accounts (FSAs). You can use either to pay for Current Health services, although the specific rules and reimbursement requirements may vary depending on your savings account provider.

Top Questions
Why should I choose Current Health for my primary care?

Current Health fundamentally changes the way healthcare is delivered. We spend more time, offer more attention, and provide better access to your doctors than traditional practices. Current Health delivers 24 hour access to top primary care specialists who dedicate their time and attention to you. We believe in customer service, and the importance of being able to develop a close relationship with your doctor.

How is Current Health different from Insurance based practices?

We are a fee-for-service practice. Our fees are transparent, consistent, and fair. (see pricing-link to pricing chart). We discuss treatments and costs openly, so you know exactly what to expect. Costs are based on the medical complexity of the visit and the time we spend with you. Our $50/month membership has many additional benefits not available in the insurance system.

Our fee-for-service approach works well with your employer sponsored health savings accounts (HSAs), health reimbursement accounts (HRAs) and flexible spending accounts (FSAs). In some cases, your employer may fund these accounts, giving you flexibility in determining how you can best spend your health care dollars.

Many of our patients successfully request reimbursement from their insurance provider, further reducing their costs to obtain a far superior health experience.

Is this "concierge medicine"?

Concierge doctors limit their practice to small number of patients and charge thousands of dollars annually to have access to their practice - a price point that few can afford Yet, even the high price does not mean that patients have access 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Current Health is open to all patients and strives to bring quality and service to a new level. We believe that success in medicine lies in the value of the relationship, the access and the experience.

How can I contact my doctor?

Phone, email, text message, answering service, pager – however you want.

I am generally healthy. Do I really need a primary care doctor?

Your health is your most important asset. It requires maintenance, surveillance and nurturing. Our approach focuses on living long and living well. Each person has a unique genetic background and environmental exposures that require a personalized approach to health.

Current Health serves as a docent, a guide to healing and offers navigation of the often complex maze of healthcare. We make it simple.

I already have insurance. Does this mean I’m paying twice?

No. Health insurance is vital in the case of catastrophic injury or prolonged illness. But health insurance is rarely focused on being pro-active with your health. Current Health understands the value of investing in your health asset to minimize your exposure to unforeseen illness.

Insurance rewards physicians for the volume of patients seen and procedures performed, not the quality of care they provide or the health outcomes they achieve. As a result, many primary care physicians who accept insurance are forced to see 30-40 patients a day with only a few minutes to assess the needs of a patient.

When you use Current Health in conjunction with your high deductible health insurance, you don’t pay twice. You manage your health care dollars. Many patients use their health savings accounts (HSAs), health reimbursement accounts (HRAs) or flexible spending accounts (FSAs) to pay for their health services.

Current Health is fee-for-service medical practice with a monthly membership fee. This means you pay for your visit at the time you receive care. We provide prefilled, simple reimbursement forms to submit to your insurance company. Our patients find that most insurance companies will reimburse a large portion of our fees as an “out-of-network” provider further increasing the value of our services.

Are you accepting new patients?

Yes. We are accepting new patients and would be delighted to welcome you to Current Health.
