Virtualizing a trial site means hospitals can recruit patients from anywhere and they can participate from their own homes. Theoretically, this makes it easier to recruit a diverse population that can adhere to the study protocol, which results in lower costs and better results. And while not all trials can be completed virtually, many will use a hybrid approach — e.g., electronic consent and symptoms collection, and telemedicine assessments coupled with in-person home visits.
